Dato' Hazimah binti Zainuddin

Dato’ Hazimah Zainuddin was appointed as the Chairman of PUNB on 24th September 2018.

She is also currently holding the positions of Member of the Business Advisory Panel of SME Corp, Member of the Board Directors of Centre for Entrepreneur Development and Research (CEDAR) Sdn Bhd, SME Bank, ambassador for Commonwealth Women Entrepreneurs, Commonwealth Businesswomen (CBW), Member of Board of Management at UUM’s Co-operative and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (CEDI), Member of The Board of Governors Binary University, Council Member of Asian Lubricant Manufacturers Union (ALMU), and Strategic Partner of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

In 1991, she started her entrepreneurship career as the Founder and Group Managing Director of Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd, a lubricant manufacturing company specialising in the production and supply of a broad range of lubricants and other petroleum derivatives.

With her vast experience as an entrepreneur, Dato’ Hazimah was appointed as the President of Peniagawati from 2003 until 2012, a Board Member of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) from 2003 until 2017, a Council Member of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) from 2000 to 2012, the Chairman of the Federation of Women Entrepreneur Association of Malaysia (FEM) from 2005 until 2007 and a PEMUDAH Member from 2012 to 2013.

Throughout her career in the entrepreneurship industry, she has also won numerous awards as a leading woman entrepreneur in Malaysia including the Commonwealth Women Entrepreneur Award (CBW) 2018, Bumiputera Women Entrepreneur Award 2018 by SME Corp, MATRADE Export Award 2018 - Women Category, The Woman Muslim World Rania Award 2017 by OIC International, Outstanding Export Achievement Award 2015 by Ministry of International Trade And Industry (MITI), The Women Entrepreneurs Awards: Malaysian Icon 2015 by Iconograph Women Icons of APEC, the Women Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 by the Malaysia Business Council, United Arab Emirates and the Women Entrepreneur of the Year, Malaysia 2002 by Ernst & Young.

Her successes both in domestic and international arenas have gained her considerable repute and she has been invited numerously to speak at international forums such as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneurial Winning Women 10th Anniversary 2017 in California, the 4th Qatar International Business Women Forum 2013 in Doha, the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 in Monte Carlo and the Global Summit of Women 2012 in Greece.

Puan Afidah Azwa binti Abdul Aziz

Puan Afidah Azwa binti Abdul Aziz was appointed as PUNB Board member effective 19th November 2015. She served as the alternate Board member since 2013.

Puan Afidah began her career in the banking industry in 2000 after graduating from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a Bachelor Degree in Economics in 1999. In April 2001, she joined the Malaysian Ministry of Finance (MoF) as the Assistant Secretary in the Economic and International Division and moved on to the Loan Management, Financial Market & Actuary Division in May 2002 after completion of her 6-month Diploma course in Public Administration at the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) in April 2002.

In 2009, she graduated with a Master degree in Development Economics from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and was made to become the Principal Assistant Secretary in the Government Guarantee Unit of the Ministry’s Strategic Investment Division in the same year.

Currently she is the Senior Principal Assistant Secretary in the Evaluation Section of the same Division, a post she holds since 2014. Puan Afidah is a member of the National Professional Services Export Council (NAPSEC) and serves as the alternate Board of Director for Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (Greentech) Malaysia since 2013.

Encik Azwan Nazri bin Baharuddin

Azwan Nazri Baharuddin was appointed as PUNB Board Member on 24th September 2018.

He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom and has spent over 20 years implementing, managing and consulting projects around the world, delivering business solutions to clients while growing sales.

Azwan worked in the United Kingdom and Europe for almost four years in the banking industry before moving back to Malaysia. He has held various leadership positions within Asia Pacific with Ernst & Young over the last 10 years, most recently as Partner, Asia Pacific Advisory Business Development Leader, implementing strategic initiatives to grow the business in the region.

He keeps abreast of the latest digital trends and is passionate about leveraging the potential of digital innovation for Malaysia’s transformation. His interest in digital has led him to be a certified Java J2EE Programmer and an active social media influencer.

Azwan joined Accenture as its Country Managing Director in 2017 and has focused on driving digital as an industry and national transformation agenda.

Encik Nurjesmi bin Mohd Nashir

Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir was appointed as PUNB Board Member on 24th September 2018.

Nurjesmi began his career in the brokerage industry as Equity Analyst at Maybank Securities and subsequently at Arab Malaysian Securities from 1994 until 1996 after graduating from Syracuse University, New York with a Bachelor Degree in Finance. In 1996, he moved on to the banking industry and joined Citibank Berhad’s SME Division before holding a succession of roles in Corporate Banking and subsequently appointed as Head of Public Sector overseeing predominantly the GLC portfolio up to 2013 at the same banking institution.

Nurjesmi has over 20 years’ experience in banking industry and capital markets with two leading international banks, and he is now holding a post of Executive Director, Head of Global Corporate Bank at J.P. Morgan Chase Bank Berhad.

Encik Zarir bin Mohd Salleh


Zarir Mohd Salleh was appointed as PUNB Board Member on 24th September 2018. Zarir Mohd Salleh holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. He started his career in 1997 with an international accounting firm, BDO Binder Public Accountants and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

As a Chartered Accountant with the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand equipped with wide experience of more than 20 years in financial-focused career involving financial reporting, client relationship management, project management, debt restructuring, corporate banking, investment banking and transaction banking, he used to serve in the Corporate Finance Department of CIMB Investment Bank Berhad (now known as Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad) in 2002, Investment Banking Department of CIMB in 2004 and HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad’s Global Banking Department in 2011.

Currently, he is a Director of Global Corporate Banking at MUFG Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (formerly known as Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (Malaysia) Berhad).

Datuk Dr. Sabirin bin Ja'afar

Datuk Dr. Sabirin Ja’afar was appointed PUNB Board Member effective 1st January 2019.

Dr Sabirin began his career as a Magistrate in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Rawang and Kajang in the Malaysian Judicial and Legal Service after graduating with Bachelor degree in Law from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1987. He was then appointed as the Senior Assistant Registrar, Deputy Registrar of High Court Kuala Lumpur before promoted as the Head of Research Division of the Federal Court of Malaysia. He then moved on to become Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court Judge cum Special Officer to the Chief of Justice, YAA Tun Dato’ Seri Mohamed Dzaiddin Haji Abdullah.

Dr. Sabirin held several key positions in the legal fraternity, amongst others were Deputy Public Prosecutor, Senior Federal Counsel (Advisory and International Division) in Attorney General’s Chambers, Principal Legal Advisor, Ministry of Defence Malaysia, Director of Legal and Investigations, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

In September 1996, he pursued his Masters in Maritime Law at the University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom. In 2002 he won the prestigious Chevening Scholarship to pursue his Ph.D in maritime law and policy at the Greenwich Maritime Institute, University of Greenwich, London. After successfully completed his doctoral research he returned to the government service before opting for early retirement to join the academia in 2011. His last position in the government service was Legal and Admin Manager, Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority, a company owned by Malaysia and Thailand to explore and produce oil and gas in the Gulf of Thailand.

He then served as Professor of Business Law and Ethics at the International Business School (IBS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from 2011 to 2014 before appointed by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong as Judicial Commissioner of High Court Malaya on a 2-year contract, after which he joined as partner in Messrs Abdul Raman Saad & Associates based in Johor Bahru specializing in corporate finance before moving back to Kuala Lumpur to venture into his own business.

Dr. Sabirin is also active in writing books and articles apart from being a regular speaker for programmes involving Maritime Law.

Currently, Datuk Dr. Sabirin is the Chairman, Inmanism Pay Sdn Bhd, Director, DSJ Treasure Food Products Sdn. Bhd., Board Member of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Melaka. He is also active in several NGOs and international maritime body such as Seafarers Rights International based in London. He was appointed Chairman of Prevention of Terrorism Board, Home Ministry by His Majesty The King for a 3 year period from October 2018.

Dr Sabirin was called as Advocate & Solicitor of High Court of Malaya in 1996.
