FZL REKABINA – Rakan Usahawan PUNB

In the competitive world of interior design and cabinetry, Faizul Azwan bin Mustaffa has carved a name for himself. As the manager and founder of FZL Rekabina, a company specializing in custom-made cabinets and home renovations, Faizul’s path to success is a testament to perseverance, innovation and passion.

Founded in 2012, FZL Rekabina initially focused on designing interior spaces. However, by 2017, Faizul expanded the company’s scope, establishing a small workshop to begin in-house production of cabinets. Despite the excitement of this new phase, Faizul encountered significant challenges. “Securing funds for raw materials was a major hurdle,” he recalled. It was during this time that a discovery by chance on Facebook connected him with Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB). Through PUNB’s guidance, Faizul secured an attractive financing, which prided him the resources needed to push his business forward.

Faizul’s foundation in architecture, where he was involved in interior design projects for government offices and residential homes in Terengganu, equipped him with the skills necessary to develop FZL Rekabina. His experience in designing and manufacturing cabinetry, coupled with his creative vision, set him apart in a crowded market. “In Terengganu, I learned how the production process worked and realized the potential of bringing custom cabinetry to the market,” Faizul shared.

Starting with simple design sketches and fulfilling modest orders, Faizul’s commitment to quality soon paid off. Over time, FZL Rekabina gained a reputation for crafting specialised kitchen cabinets, as well as modern and classic living room designs tailored to the needs of individual clients. “Customers wanted something unique, whether it was modern or classic style. We made sure to offer personalised solutions, matching their preferences for every space,” Faizul explains.

The production process at FZL Rekabina is methodical. After consulting with clients and conducting site visits, Faizul’s team creates detailed drawings to bring the client’s vision to life. Once finalised, raw materials are sourced from trusted suppliers and delivered to the workshop. Production time varies, but typically, a custom cabinet is completed within two weeks. “Seasonal trends and customer demands shape our schedule,” he notes.

One of Faizul’s most significant challenges has been cash flow management. Delayed client payments often slowed production, limiting his ability to stock up on materials. Despite these obstacles, Faizul maintained strong relationships with local suppliers, ensuring a steady flow of resources even during challenging times. “We’ve built a network of reliable suppliers who deliver materials quickly, allowing us to stay on track,” Faizul shares.

Looking to the future, Faizul sees enormous potential in the housing market. “As the residential sector continues to grow, we’re focusing more on retail projects,” he says. His goal is to offer affordable, high-quality solutions to homeowners, a move he believes will propel FZL Rekabina forward in the coming years.

For young entrepreneurs, Faizul offers straightforward advice: “Discipline, passion and enthusiasm are essential. If you lack interest in what you’re doing, the quality of your work will reflect that.” His emphasis on passion is rooted in the belief that dedication drives success, particularly in fields where craftsmanship and attention to detail are paramount.

Today, FZL Rekabina operates with a highly skilled team of four production staff. Each member contributes to the meticulous process of crafting custom cabinetry. From individual component assembly to final delivery, the team ensures that every product meets the client’s expectations. Faizul’s team also handles installation, with staff on-site to organise and set up cabinets in customers’ homes.

FZL Rekabina has embraced digital marketing, utilising platforms such as TikTok and Facebook to reach a broader audience. Faizul has successfully run promotional campaigns for ready-made TV cabinets, offering affordable options under RM1,000. However, he notes that many clients still prefer custom-built designs that span entire walls, reinforcing the need for personalized service in his business model.

Faizul’s entrepreneurial journey has not been without setbacks. He has experienced project delays, missed opportunities and even dishonest clients. Yet, through it all, Faizul has remained determined. “There were moments when I felt discouraged, but giving up was never an option,” he reflects. After nearly a decade in the industry, FZL Rekabina has built a solid foundation, recently securing a major project in Penang, which provided much-needed financial stability.

As Faizul looks back on his journey, he remains grounded. “Some days bring success, while others don’t,” he says humbly. “But every experience, good or bad, has taught us valuable lessons and helped us grow.” With his eyes set on the future, Faizul Azwan bin Mustaffa continues to lead FZL Rekabina, crafting not just cabinets but stories of perseverance, resilience and success.

MIE SOYA ENTERPRISE – Rakan Usahawan PUNB

In the bustling world of Malaysian entrepreneurship, few stories are as compelling as that of Zuhaymee bin Mustapa, the founder of Mie Soya Enterprise. From a humble beginning in 1997, Zuhaymee has grown his business into a household name, specializing in soy-based products like tempe, tauhu, tau foo fah and soy drinks. Nearly 28 years on, his company remains a testament to perseverance and innovation, having supplied renowned brands and making a mark in the food industry.

Zuhaymee’s journey into the soy business was driven by his love for tempe, a fermented soy product that holds a special place in his heart. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, Zuhaymee served as a soldier, a career very different from the intricacies of food production. His turning point came when he approached an expert tempe maker at a local market, only to be told that the process was too complicated for a beginner. This response ignited Zuhaymee’s determination to prove that hard work and passion could overcome any challenge. “I wanted to show that nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it,” he said.

Rather than giving up, Zuhaymee embarked on a journey of self-study, learning from various local tempe makers and refining his process until he could produce his own high-quality product. The process of making tempe begins with soaking the soybeans for 40 hours, followed by steaming them to retain their nutrients. After steaming, the beans are packaged and undergo fermentation for about five days, after which they are ready for distribution to suppliers.

Quality control is a priority for Mie Soya Enterprise. Each batch of tempe is carefully screened to ensure it is free from impurities before being packed. Zuhaymee takes pride in sourcing premium soybeans from the United States to maintain the high standards of his products.

However, the road to success has not been without its challenges. Internal obstacles include ensuring the quality of raw materials and maintaining optimal production conditions, while external factors like meeting delivery deadlines to ensure fresh products also play a significant role. During festive seasons, production at Mie Soya Enterprise triples, with up to 4,000 pieces of tempe produced daily. Currently, the company employs eight local staff members who work under flexible schedules to reduce stress and increase productivity.

When asked about competition, especially from both Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera competitors, Zuhaymee remains unfazed. He views competition as healthy, choosing to focus on delivering quality products to his customers. His company continues to thrive, producing 6,000 pieces of tempe daily, along with 2,000 pieces of tauhu putih (white tofu), 2,000 tauhu lampung (soft tofu) and 200 tauhu goreng (fried tofu).

Mie Soya Enterprise has grown significantly over the years, even catching the attention of a well-known local fried chicken chain, making them a key supplier to Ayam Penyet franchises across Malaysia. Furthermore, the company has supplied soy-based products to renowned bakeries, including the famous Roti Gardenia.

Zuhaymee’s expertise has not gone unnoticed. He now serves as a trainer in various government entrepreneurship programs, sharing his knowledge with aspiring business owners who want to enter the soy product industry. For those interested in learning the art of making tempe or other soy products, Mie Soya Enterprise offers training sessions which they will guide one-to-one on how to manage soy business. Additionally, customers can walk in and purchase soy milk and tau foo fah (soybean pudding) directly from the factory or selected stores in the region.

Looking ahead, Zuhaymee has plans to expand his business further. Recently, a supplier expressed interest in increasing the daily order to 6,000 pieces of tempe, which could lead to the opening of a second Mie Soya Enterprise branch within the same district.

After nearly three decades in business, Zuhaymee’s story is one of resilience, passion, and an unwavering belief in his products. His dedication to quality and innovation continues to fuel the growth of Mie Soya Enterprise, ensuring that it remains a staple in Malaysia’s food industry for years to come.

As he reflects on his journey, Zuhaymee’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: “Success is within reach if you work hard and never give up. There is no shortcut to greatness, only dedication and effort.”

JR SEJAGAT SOLUTION – Rakan Usahawan PUNB

Memang senang untuk memulakan perniagaan tapi bukan mudah untuk terus mengekalkanya. Namun, demi menerokai pengalaman baharu, Mohd Jaffar bin Robani sanggup mengambil risiko bagi memulakan perniagaan sendiri dengan menjual dodol, sagun dan kek tradisional lain di Merlimau, Melaka. Jom, ikuti temu bual bersama pemilik JR Sejagat Solution!

BEYOND HOME THERAPY – Rakan Usahawan PUNB

Idea Niaga

Managing a business is no easy feat nowadays—economic and technological changes take place at an astonishing rate, meaning that the parameters for doing business also constantly change, notes Neal Jenson, Managing Director of a Salt Lake City-based consulting firm that has advised a range of businesses, from small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.

If you are a CEO or an entrepreneur with your own business to look after, you are also in charge of nurturing and growing the business.

The first step to grow your business is to know how to make it thrive from its current state. One move that business owners can make to expand their business is to take it to the global level. However, before venturing out onto the global stage, it is critical to know if it is wise to take this leap, or to just stay put and conquer the local market.

Local or Global
Today, with the world becoming connected and everything seeming to be a stone’s throw away, many companies are entering the global arena. A survey conducted by Wells Fargo among American companies in 2016 found that an overwhelming 87 per cent were of the opinion that international expansion was vital for long-term growth. Be that as it may, there are still a handful of companies that see the benefits of staying local in order for their business to thrive.

Staying local does not mean having just one store in one location. What is meant by staying local is to concentrate your business on a particular city or region, even if you operate online.

By staying local, your business will have a more defined market, a clearer focus and a more targeted and personal branding. Staying local may also allow you to nurture the relationship between your business and its customers, which is one of the most important parts of a business. On the other hand, going global results in an increase in sales for your business as you open up your products and services to consumers from all over the world. This allows your business to not depend entirely on the local economy.

Knowing How to Decide
To know which path will benefit your business more, you will have to know the deciding factor. The deciding factor for any business is its target audience, followed by the market for expansion in the industry.

Social media is undoubtedly one of the best tools to find and to get to know your target audience better.

With the aid of social media apps such as Facebook and Instagram together with analytic tools, you can easily collect important data, identify and resolve issues as well as plan the growth of your business—all without costing you an arm and a leg. For instance, you can use the demographics data gained from a promotional video you created to identify the interest of your target audience, and thus make the necessary changes to your business plan in order for it to grow.

Going Global
To determine whether to stay local or to go global, be sure to know your business inside out to secure a bright future for your business.

What is the most challenging issue for companies looking to expand globally?

37% – Knowing where to start

34% – Finding the right local partner

14% – Dealing with different government rules

3% – Managing cultural issues

3% – Others

As can be seen from the survey above, the issue that most companies often find challenging when going global is to know where to start.

If you have weighed your options and decide to go global, it is vital for you to fully understand the impact this will cost your business.

Bear in mind the words of Diego Caicedo, co-founder and CEO of_OmniBank: “It may be better to serve one country well than several countries poorly.” If you feel that your business will be better off staying local, then it is advisable to just stay put and maintain your usual business. However, if you see the potential for launching your business at a global level, then make it your target and take the steps needed to see it come true.
